Business is about people. Not only entrepreneurs and their employees, but also the residents of the cities where investments are made. The Gdańsk Foundation for Economic Development supports the creation of a shared platform for dialogue between regional economic growth and the needs of the local community.Connecting business stakeholders with residents through socially beneficial initiatives, developing the labor market through educational efforts, creating new jobs, empowering marginalized and disabled individuals, engaging in charitable activities, and supporting the growth of culture and sports — these are the core areas of activity for the Gdańsk Foundation for Economic Development (GFRG).

Odpowiedzialny biznes

The Foundation promotes sustainable economic development of the region, carried out responsibly, in harmony with the needs of the local community and with care for the preservation of natural resources. It supports eco-friendly initiatives, including educational programs that raise environmental awareness, as well as the activities of organizations focused on the active protection of the natural environment and wild animals. Under the Foundation’s care are local shelters and sanctuaries that provide assistance to abandoned animals.

Edukacja, sport, kultura i sztuka

The Foundation’s core mission is to support education that fosters entrepreneurship, local development, and investment in young people. As part of the “Education for Business” program, the Foundation is actively involved in developing training tailored to labor market needs — by creating sponsored school classes, offering training for individuals at risk of unemployment, and organizing vocational courses to enhance professional qualifications. The Foundation collaborates with institutions and artists working in the fields of culture and the arts, and supports events that promote “culture with a message.” It also co-organizes sporting events and provides financial support for activities for children and youth with disabilities.

Działalność dobroczynna

The Foundation promotes the initiatives of organizations that support individuals at risk of social exclusion and those facing severe life challenges. GFRG provides assistance to, among others, children’s homes, hospices, and associations that empower people with disabilities in Gdańsk.

Wyrównywanie szans

The Gdańsk Foundation for Economic Development operates in the field of equal opportunity, supporting programs aimed at the social and professional activation of seniors, immigrants, children raised in foster care, minority groups, and people with disabilities. All of these initiatives, which fall broadly within the scope of combating social exclusion, have been among the Foundation’s top priorities from the very beginning.

How we support Gdańsk
  • Education

“Who do you want to become?” It’s a question each of us has heard at least once in our lives. The answer is neither simple nor obvious. We support initiatives that promote the fundamentals of entrepreneurship among pupils and students, provide career guidance, and help young people make informed choices about their professional paths. As part of our original program “Education for Business,” support has been extended to organizations such as the “Your Role” Foundation and the “Inspiring Examples” Foundation. We are also a partner of the “UP Foundation for Development Initiatives.”

These foundations focus on helping young people choose their professions and build meaningful careers. They foster local development through cross-sector collaboration between businesses, NGOs, and public institutions. They also expand access to educational programs that address topics such as social economy, inclusion and exclusion, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship education, and sustainable development.

  • Sport Knows No Boundaries

The promotion of sport and physical activity is one of our key areas of engagement. We co-organize sporting events and provide funding for sports activities for children and youth with disabilities. Each year, we take part in organizing the investGDA CUP tournament and the Baltic Chess Tournament. We were also a partner of the Blind Tennis Conference held in the Tricity area and the international event “PLAY ON Blind Tennis Tournament II.”

  • Equal Opportunity

We support the operation of children’s homes and family foster homes by providing funding for extracurricular activities, recreational programs for residents, and facility equipment upgrades. We assist Neighborhood Houses and Student Sports Clubs in organizing activities for children from low-income families. We also support Voivodeship and Municipal Public Libraries by funding the purchase of books for the visually impaired (published in large print), reading-assistive devices, and collections printed in Braille.

  • Cultural Gdańsk

Culture is what remains when you’ve forgotten everything you learned.
    (Selma Lagerlöf)

Collaboration with cultural institutions and individuals active in the fields of art and culture, as well as support for artistic events that promote cultural values and counteract discrimination, is a key focus of our work. Last year, we supported the project “Mariacka Street Through the Eyes of Artists from Around the World,” which featured over 100 artists from seven countries. Proceeds from the sale of artworks were donated to aid Ukrainian refugees. Our partnership with WL4 Art Space enabled the organization of three international art projects: “Facing Violence,” “ON(a),” and “Digital Art – Between Freedom and Surveillance.” We also sponsored the “Concerts Under the Stars” held as part of the St. Dominic’s Fair.

  • Volunteering

The joint efforts of the Foundation’s employees and its Founder have created a precedent commonly known as employee volunteering. As part of this initiative, we have: cleaned up areas in Gdańsk’s Stogi district (World Cleanup Day 2022), prepared holiday gifts for children and seniors (“Everyone Can Help” campaign), cycled to raise funds for the Aleksandra FOSA Social Support Foundation as part of the “Blue Sneakers” program — providing psychiatric support for children and youth in Gdańsk, and worked on the urban farm (harvest activities with the “Your Role” Foundation).Together, we’re making the world a better place!

  • Aid for Ukraine

The past year has been a challenge for all of us — especially for the people of Ukraine. As a Foundation, we became actively involved in providing aid both within Ukraine (including the purchase of bicycles for doctors, medical supplies, and funding for humanitarian transport) and for refugees in temporary shelters in Gdańsk. Together with our partners, we built a playground for children at the refugee center on Wita Stwosza Street in Gdańsk, organized a collection of goods and food items delivered to the donation center at Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk, and purchased Ukrainian-language books for Gdańsk’s public libraries. We also supported the Gdańsk Foundation in its “Gdańsk Helps Ukraine” campaign.
